Is President Obama really "the most powerful writer since Julius Caesar"? Screenwriter Roger L. Simon and filmmaker Lionel Chetwynd dissect the bold claim made of the President by NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman. ("Poliwood")

I've been calling Barry "Black Caesar" since early 2008, when the winds of his arising first bruited abroad... Finally we're on the same page.

"The most powerful writer since Julius Caesar". Ok, first of all, Julius Caesar was a terrible writer. Almost all ancient historians will tell you that his writing style is simply terrible. So, why would the head of the NEA compare Obama's power as a writer to Caesar's? Why not use another Roman writer such as, Cicero or even Marcus Aurelius, both of whom wrote brilliant philosophical/political works?

The answer is the word "powerful". I do not think its a coincidence that the head of the NEA compared Obama to a man that "fundamentally transformed" Rome from a Republic to a dictatorship. I'm not saying that Obama will become a dictator, but I don't think Rocco Landesman would be opposed to the idea.

I certainly take your point, jgallagher50, but I suspect you give Landesman more credit than he is due. He probably knows nothing of Roman literature. He certainly knows nothing of American literature, since he had no idea which presidents wrote books and which didn't.

"Obama the most powerful writer since Julius Caesar?" Oh, so THAT'S the reason Rep. Wilson shouted: "YOU LIE!"

Sirs:

The rate on ignorance is good. However to include in this a dissusion of Hollywoods own blackout, having just read the blog Reason.com about the achieved goal of Hollywood to ignore the true socialist evil in the world, such as Stalin and Mao, would cheer me greatly. As the daughter in law in the famliy of Goff, who lead the CIA against the fascist in Spain, I have heard more than most. So good luck and I will contine to watch.

Brilliant plan, gentlemen! I look forward to the fact checking. O as brilliant speech writer??? I thought his speeches were written by a 27 year old college student who was last seen on some internet site taking liberties with a life size cutout of Sarah Palin...that guy and Bill Ayers. You can tell a man by the company he keeps....AAAAAARG!

I am planning to make an indie in the next year. I have bent over backwards trying to make it technically realistic and exciting. I hope you guys get to screen it and do a "intelligenc-o-meter" on it.

Great report.

Actually, there are some striking parallels. Caesar’s most famous oratories were written to bury someone, either literally or politically. Much of the rest of his work consists of “What I Did in the War.”

Every Caesar has his Brutus.

Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and the Apostle Paul all wrote after Julius Caesar. This gives us all an insight into the priorities of the NEA and the government that supports it.
