– Superman, Batman, the Fantastic Four, Spiderman, The Avengers, X-Men. Folks love superheroes, even Aquaman. There's a huge market for it. Who are we gonna send to compete with such interests? Bibleman? Not to belittle Bibleman, I'm just suggesting a little more variety.

(rock music)

I like sci-fi and I dig the superhero stories, they're really fun. But it's hard to geek out over 'em when I'm already a huge fan of an actual superhero who walked upon the Earth, sea and sky: Jesus Christ, son of the original Space Ghost. If anybody deserved to have a wallet that said "Bad Mofo" on it, it wouldn't be Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction, it would be that dude Jesus. The Messiah was expected to ride in on a white horse and level the Roman Empire. But instead of busting in like Superman, Jesus strolled in more like the mild-mannered Clark Kent. He wasn't born rich like Bruce Wayne, he was born broke. He stepped on the scene as no threat, yet scared the crap out of kings. Herod was so scared of the prospect of this kid that he had kids two years and under murdered in a sweep to try to get rid of Jesus. Jesus already knows that this is gonna end in war, but he wanted to give folks a chance instead of leveling Rome to rubble. Jesus was on his way to defeating Rome by bringing a different war and was defeating the very things that we wish we could free of now. We battle disease. Jesus was kicking the crap out of disease. We wanna fight hunger. Jesus was feeding the hungry, the blind were given sight, the deaf, their hearing. Jesus was demonstrating real superheroism, ridding people of various oppressions and, of course, sin. Had the Sanhedrin backed Jesus instead of wanting to kill him, they would've been freed from Rome. A real king protects his people and guards their ability to thrive. Jesus has proven he could do that and didn't take from the people to do it. Subjects of Rome were starting to catch wind of the superhero King of the Jews, who made sure that the poor had what they need to not be hungry. Can you do that without taking from someone else, Caesar? No. This superhero King of the Jews is healing diseased people, restoring sight and hearing. Can you do that, Caesar? Is your state health care plan as good as the privatized health care plan of Jesus? No! The superhero King of the Jews is raising people from the flipping dead. Can you do that Caesar? No. You don't raise the dead, you tax 'em. I think I would rather belong to the kingdom of this Jesus guy than under Roman rule. And that's the way Rome was gonna fall apart. Even centurions were embracing Jesus. The military of Rome would've decayed and pledged their loyalty to Jesus. As a centurion hinted, "If I tell my soldiers to go, they'll go." In him saying that, he's also implying that, "If I wanna leave Rome to join your ranks, "my soldiers will follow me." Jesus would've effectively wiped out Rome by gravitating them to His kingdom. But his efforts were interrupted by those who could not get their heart and mind around what he was doing. And instead of embracing who came in peace, they'll now have to face the wrath of him coming in war. And those who stood then and stand today as stubborn as oaks will snap like twigs when the shockwave of His word hits them and their bones blow away as dust. That's my hero, the hero who came in peace with blood-sweating patience for His enemies, yet with power that will cause a mountain to split when he steps on it. And just as no mountain will be able to bear the weight of His power, that means there were certainly be no knees that can resist buckling to the ground either. Jesus was an actual superhero and was murdered. But He had to be murdered to prove that He alone has the power to beat the greatest enemy of us all, death. That's a super-duper hero. And just as Jesus is a superhero, the Bible also speaks of other kinds of heroes who also existed, and they existed in the days of Noah. Now, to those Christians who say things like the flood and other things in the Bible are allegorical, please stop. You either believe the Bible or you don't. I reckon you call yourself a Christian because you believe in the virgin birth and you believe in the resurrection. A human virgin birth is impossible. And having flesh practically ripped off your body and being almost bled dry and then hung on a cross until dead and then stuck in a tomb for three days and then coming back to life is impossible. But, you don't believe Jesus when he speaks of Jonah in the fish? I can understand secularists not believing that, but a Christian not believing the Jonah story actually happened, when Jesus himself spoke of Jonah just doesn't make sense. But let's get to the other superheroes I was speaking of. These figures are pretty significant. Even though there's not much said about them, something must be pretty important because you still learn about who they are before you learn the details of Noah in the account of Noah. These are the biblical details of the Nephilim. Their fathers, the sons of God, B'Nai Elohim, that is, the angelic sons of God, which means not the sons of Seth. The Bible doesn't say the sons of Seth. Do not impose your own piety on the Scriptures to try to say that the angels are too holy to have relations and try to put other sons in their place to make it fit your view of righteousness or fit them into your idea of a holy box. These were angelic sons of God, angels still in God's favor.

It doesn't call them rebels or fallen or demons or anything negative. They carry the distinction of being the sons of God, B'Nai Elohim. The same term is used for the sons of God in the Book of Job 1:6. I doubt it was the sons of Seth that stood guard before God as Satan came to discuss Job with God. These angels were not fallen. They did not come with Satan. Satan was escorted by them, a security detail if you will. God doesn't need a security detail, but God is the perfect balance of humility and majesty. He still appoints occupations. He still gives purpose to his servants. He doesn't need us, but He still blesses us with purpose. But even though Satan is no threat to God, Satan is still a threat to the free will of other angels. Satan has already influenced a third of the angels to join him. The sons of God were there as the ones who were the most solid, to make sure Satan had no other business there other than to speak with God about Job and could not talk to any other angels. Satan still came with hate in his heart, blame on his tongue and war on his mind. The sons of God were on post in case the angels who joined Satan decided to wage another war. These angelic sons of God were there to keep the peace, which is what our police and military is for, to protect the peace. And doesn't it say in Matthew 5:9, "Blessed are the peacemakers, "for they will be called the sons of God"? You can't just be called a son of God or a child of God and be an evil person. So, my point is, the sons of God were not evil, fallen or demons. They were God's loyal angels. These same angels saw human women and found them to be beautiful and took them as wives and had children with them. The pious sees this as abominable. I guess you're not supposed to find the woman you wanna marry attractive. But there's a very important detail here. Many who believe these angels were evil go way outside of scripture and insist that the reasons why these supposedly fallen angels impregnated these women is because they were trying to interrupt the genealogy that would bring about the Messiah. So, let me get this straight. The motivation of these so-called fallen angels was to impregnate women so they could stop the birth of the Messiah? That sounds like a really complicated motivation. Let's look again at what the Bible says their motivation was, which is as plan as day and as easy for any man to understand as getting pee on the toilet seat. Genesis 6:2, "The angels looked at the women "and found them to be beautiful and chose wives." Their motivation was that simple. "Dang, that girl is fine! "I wanna marry her! "Why? 'Cause she fine! "What's my motivation? "I'll say it again. "That girl is fine!" There is nothing in there that says the motivation of these angels was like (laughs evilly), "Let's carry out the evil plan "of impregnating human women "to stop the birth of the Messiah." But it's clearly written that their motivation was, "Gosh, that girl sure is purty!" Do you think that if they were really on a mission to stop the birth of Jesus they would care if the women were pretty? The sons of God marrying human women had nothing to do with stopping the Messiah from being born. They just saw pretty girls. And by the way, fallen angels hate us. I don't think demons would waste their time marrying human women. It doesn't say these women were violated and impregnated. The sons of God married them and then they had children, which is a lot more honorable than just knocking women up out of wedlock. I'm not seeing where the Bible says that they were fallen angels. Some who believe the contrary believe that the angels were fallen because they left their First Estate because they were tempted by human women. No! That's not possible. The angels that fell with Satan were already fallen. Satan and his angels fell before Adam was even made. Human women didn't even exist yet. Human women were not the cause of fallen angels. But according to the book of Enoch, women are to blame for everything. And for all the talk it does about angels, it strangely hardly mentions Satan. It implicates women for more evil than the Devil. I know there are many out there who wanna believe the Book of Enoch. I believe the Bible, not the Book of Enoch. The Book of Enoch is a book of the apocrypha, and apocrypha itself means dubious, not trustworthy. Others will insist that the definition to apply is things that are hidden, but I read the Book of Enoch. And right off the bat, I see why it didn't meet the canon. Very little of it squares with the Bible. Most of it is way out there. We won't get too far off into the weeds in pointing out the discrepancies right now, but y'all, I'm going by what the Bible says about the angelic sons of God and the Nephilim. There's plenty enough to debate about concerning them in the Bible alone. It's a pointless complication to include using the Book of Enoch to define who the sons of God and who the Nephilim are. But I can use the Book of Enoch to speculate on who they were not. Last point and we'll close and we'll pick this up on the next one. This is another area where I butt heads with Christians concerning marriage. Many Christians insist that there will be no marriage in Heaven and there will be no sexual relations. This also leads me to believe that angels do not have reproductive organs. This is believed because, in verses like Matthew 22:30 and Mark 12:25, it says folks will neither marry nor be given into marriage. They will be like the angels in Heaven, which suggests that angels are not capable of marriage or equipped to have marital relations. Y'all, I think, are missing something. If angels are not capable of marrying and having marital relations, then how do you explain the angels who married and were able to father children in Genesis 6:4? I'll tell you. We nor the angels do not marry in Heaven. The angels didn't marry in Heaven. The angels married on the Earth. Jesus didn't say that the angels in Heaven don't marry for no reason. He was making a distinction. Y'all, Heaven won't be the only residence for us. The Bible says we inherit the land forever. For God so loved the world? That involves mankind and the ground beneath his feet. God loves the Earth so much, He made us out of it in His image. His love is for it all. God loved the world so much, He sacrificed His son for what we corrupted. You think He's gonna get rid of the world after His son was killed for it? No! God loves Jesus, God loves man, God loves the Earth, God loves the cosmos. But why would he destroy the world? Because the files of our free will system have been corrupted by us and He's gonna do a reboot with a serious upgrade. Corruption will be thrown into the lake of fire, and that's a firewall that no corruption will be able to get past ever again. Jesus was resurrected after His death to live forever. Man will be resurrected after death, to live forever. The Earth will be resurrected after its death too, to exist forever. So, after the resurrection, there's still marriage, just don't expect to be married in Heaven 'cause that's been where marriages take place. Revelation 21:1, "Behold, I saw a new Heaven and a new Earth." Why would God make a new Earth if we're not gonna live on it? And that's where marriages take place. So, on the Earth is where marriages take place. People aren't married in Heaven. Adam and Eve were not married in Heaven. They were married on the Earth. The sons of God, God's angels, did not marry in Heaven. They were married on the Earth. When Christ receives His bride, whether you believe the bride is the church, a woman adorned in gold or Jerusalem, even that happens in the Earthly realm. When Jerusalem is adorned as a bride, she will be coming out of Heaven to meet Christ for their marriage. So, there is the joining of marriage, just not in Heaven, just like Jesus said. And remember y'all, God said it's not good for man to be alone, and Adam was in God's garden. Thank you guys so much for listening.
