A new poll's making headlines saying that Donald Trump is wrecking the Republican Party, but is he? First, let's consider the source. It's a Marist Poll conducted on behalf of MSNBC and Telemundo, both networks famous for their hatred of conservatives and Donald Trump specifically. So what exactly are they claiming? Well let's take a look. Here's the question they asked. Overall, do you think Donald Trump is helping, hurting or having no impact on the image of the Republican Party? 24% said he's helping the party, 14% said he's having no impact, and a huge 58% say he's hurting the party. They also specifically reported the response of Latinos. When asked the same question, only 16% said he was helping the party, 15% said he was having no impact, and 65% said no bueno. The poll also asked, "Do you think Donald Trump tells it like it is, or is insulting and offensive?" 43% said he tells it like it is, 52% said he's insulting and offensive. But is that really an either, or question? Can't someone be telling it like it is and be offensive at the same time? If someone's fat, you say, "Hey, guess what, "you're packin' on some pounds." They could be true and rude. And going back to the main question. Does it even matter if people who would never consider voting Republican think he's hurting the brand? The GOP is dead to them, whether or not Donald Trump is involved. Finally, could Trump be hurting the Republican Party's structure, but still doing good for the larger conservative cause? The other thing you have to take into consideration is Trump is expanding the tent. Let's not forget what happened with Jesse Ventura in the state of Minnesota, and Arnold Schwarzenegger in California. The polls before those elections were wrong, because they only polled the people who voted in previous elections. What Donald Trump is doing is similar to what those other two politicians, non-traditional politicians, did, which is energizing a bunch of people who don't usually participate in the political process. If Donald Trump can bring more of these people in, maybe people who watch him on his TV show, The Apprentice, or maybe people who listen to him on Howard Stern, people who vote every once in a while or hardly at all. If those people are brought into the tent, then Donald Trump is helping the Republic Party, but the Republican Party certainly doesn't want to admit that.
